Here are a few good things I’d love to share, that have come across my desk (does anyone even have a desk any more? I don’t know why I typed that. I don’t have a desk…I have a basket on top of my microwave, which holds all my important papers, and my computer. I suppose I should have typed “desktop”!).
If you are a blogger and you’re planning to attend the NDSC conference in Sacramento in August, a group of fellow conference-attendees have put together a way to identify each other–visit www.dsbloggers.blogspot.com, where Monica will create a personalized badge to bring with you. There is also a button you can grab for your blog, too, if you want to help spread the word.
(Thanks to Lisa for the links!)
And here’s a terrific resource for parenting kids with disabilities from Bloorview Kids Rehab, Canada’s largest children’s rehab hospital. It’s called BLOOM, a wonderful magazine on parenting kids with disabilities that you can order in print, or read online here. You can also read the blog, here.

Wow, that Bloom magazine and blog are super cool. What a great concept to harness new technologies to connect up parents! Thanks for that…

Jennifer, Thanks for promoting our new site! Actually, I make the badges based on your blog design and we’ll print them and put them in a plastic ID badge holder with a clip so it can clip onto the lanyard you’ll get at the Convention. Cool, huh? You can see some of the sample designs I’ve already created by going to the site: http://www.dsbloggers.blogspot.com
Thanks again! So sad you’re not coming this year!

Me, too (sad!). I’ll reword the original post to make this info you’ve shared more clear.

PS: I see you’ve added our DS Bloggers blog to your blogroll. I’d love it if you added my Monkey Musings Ds blog as well. Thanks!

Thank you so much Jennifer for sharing BLOOM with your readers. And thank you for visiting the blog!
I borrowed Road Map from Bloorview’s library and I’m enjoying it so much (on chapter 11)! You touch beautifully on all of those ‘first’ parenting milestones unique to parents of children with disabilities — receiving the news; finding the words to explain to family and friends (who do you tell?); watching some friends step up to the plate and realizing that others , unexpectedly, can’t handle it; that “first” time when a professional treats your child in a disrespectful way but you’re too green to challenge them; the shock of someone making an offensive comment publicly, in front of your child; researching your child’s condition and seeing words laden with stigma jump off the page — and all the mix of natural emotions that go with each.
Is there a place on your blog where you describe the writing process — how you wrote the book? Did you keep journals? You share such vivid sensory details that allow us to feel we’re right there with you. I’d love to know more about when you wrote the book (relative to when the boys were born) and the process.
Looking forward to hearing more about your three boys four years later! Louise
