Still more good things!

Today, it’s a two-for-one on the “Good things” posts (I will always have a soft spot in my heart for that phrase after my one-time roommate and friend Caroline responded, when I told her about the twins, “I love two-fers!”  I do, too.)  So here we go:

Vicki Forman’s book This Lovely Life, which won this year’s Bakeless Prize for Creative Nonfiction, is now available here.

I’ve written a longer review of the book that will appear at Literary Mama later this summer; get your copy now and we can discuss it online.  This book has some of the most beautiful writing about grief that I’ve ever read.   I hope you agree!  And if you don’t, let’s talk about it…there’s nothing I love more than a good book discussion.

Agreed, it is a beautfully-written book. I need to do a re-read; the first time I was too enchanted by her writing and distressed by her experiences to absorb what she was actually saying.

I have to order my copy off Amazon – I am hoping ot do so soon – in time for the school holidays. I have just finished reading The Madonna in The Suitcase by Huberta Hellendoorn – her daughter has DS and is 47 – it is a lovley (not very long) book about their life – written as a letter to her daughter. I loved it. Huberta’s email is huberta@earthlight.co.nz should you be interested in talking with her about the joys of writing. She is further along this journey than you or I and yet so much of the heart of her story resonated with me. I think you’d like it too.

BTW – fb tells me that birthday greetings are due – I am sure your wonderful family will do their best to spoil you – I hope you have a lovely day.

Funny I’m popping around blogs I haven’t visited in much too long and keep stumbling upon posts about Vicki’s book. Another book I’ll never forget!
